intro
Happy New Year! Welcome to our first eNewsletter of 2013. We survived the end of the world and barely avoided the Fiscal Cliff. For some reason?I guess it's because I am basically an optimist?I think 2013 is going to be a very good year, especially for the LiDAR industry.
Here in the U.S. housing and automobile sales are in the recovery mode. China seems to have achieved a soft landing and I think that the EU has a plan that will allow them to start growing again in the second half of 2013. U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.), incoming chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, recently said he's open to every approach when it comes to funding. That is all very positive for the world economy and 3D markets.
Remember you can choose to receive either a digital or hard copy of LiDAR Magazine on our website. Please encourage your colleagues to sign up for this eNewsletter HERE. We thank you for your ongoing support in building this professional community.
Best regards,
Gene Roe, LS, PE, PhD

Just How Accurate is LiDAR?: Mike Tully ? A client told me the other day that some vendors are promising vertical accuracy of LiDAR deliverables that exceed the LiDAR manufacturer specifications for that system and asked: Is it legitimate for a service provider to promise better accuracy than manufacturer specifications? Or, are service providers overselling their LiDAR services ...

Transmission & Distribution Utility Inspections and Work Bundling: Jason Amadori ? Many utilities collect their infrastructure inspection data using a variety of techniques, sources and systems of record. Having many different repositories of digital information makes it difficult to make informed decisions about where to spend operations and maintenance (O & M) and capital ...
