The HxGN LIVE event this past week
in Las Vegas was impressive on a number of levels - the sophistication of the event itself,
including a live TV
offering for those who could not travel; the innovation of new products including a mobile
mapping solution (finally); and perhaps most important, the hoped for integration of
geospatial, design, metrology and geomatics.
I am shifting gears a bit with the video selection for this issue. It's a TED Talk by Simon
Sinek on how leaders inspire people to act and the question of WHY. Ken Smerz discusses this in
greater detail in the upcoming LiDAR Magazine.
Our July/August edition is on press this week, set to release at the Optech and Riegl events
later this month. We'll be at both shows; don't hesitate to reach out if you'll be at either
event and would like to meet up.

The Global Mapper v14.2 release includes many LiDAR enhancements such as search by elevations
and the ability to color by return value. Other major improvements include several scripting
updates, Volume Measurement tools, new right-click option to the vector data Search dialog and of
course many new formats.

Stepping Outside the ?Bubble? to
Having spent almost 20 years in the LiDAR community, I have seen many LiDAR presentations.
Yet, the data still impresses me. Anyone with just the smallest appreciation for technology has
to marvel at a remarkably detailed point cloud rich in spatial information. How many
presentations were made where the engineers, designers, constructors, quickly communicated
hundreds of useful applications for the data? Yet, how often ...

Simon Sinek: How great leaders
In this 18 minute video Simon Sinek explains that in many situations we focus on the "how"
and "what" when we should start by asking "why" ...

Uncle Sam Really Is Here to
Help!: Jeff Fagerman ? Recently I was given the opportunity to travel
overseas with a delegation of US Commerce agents. The purpose of the trip was to promote
international business between companies like mine, LiDAR USA, and businesses in South East Asia.
In Korea the trip was brilliantly arranged to coincide with the Trade Winds-Asia Business ...
Least Squares - Best Fit
: Cyn Rene Whitfield ? All measurements contain errors. These errors can be
mitigated by applying least square adjustments which is also known as ?best fit?. With global
positioning systems, total station instruments, laser scanners and satellite imaging systems now
generating millions of points per second, adjustment for errors is crucial to ...
