intro
The Esri Survey Summit and the 3D Mapping and LiDAR Forum were valuable events that might be combined next year to produce what I think would be a conference that would appeal to a much larger audience. Please let me know your thoughts. Esri is investing heavily in support for LiDAR because they see it as critical input to 3D GIS. This is an important emerging market.
At the recent TRB AFB 80 committee meeting, speaker after speaker noted that the key issue in the adoption of new technology was not technical - it was organizational. Ted Knaak's follow on article in this issue recommends a "bite size" strategy of working with customers to help them with organizational change. See what you think.
Remember you can choose to receive either a digital or hard copy of the LiDAR Magazine on the website and encourage your colleagues to sign up for this eNewsletter HERE. We thank you for your ongoing support in building this professional community.

Inventory for DOTs Using Mobile LiDAR Technology
DOTs (Departments of Transportation) across the country are mandated by the federal government to keep track of their roadway assets and to report against these assets to receive federal funding for their maintenance and repair. Many DOTs conduct roadway characteristics inventories (RCI) on an annual basis to update and maintain their data relative to these assets. Traditionally, this has been completed using a boots-on-the ...
