intro
I received quite a bit of feedback on a recent blog post concerning the issue of hacking LiDAR systems, particularly those that could be guiding a driverless vehicle. As you can see, the tone of my post was on the negative side, but most of the comments pointed to the positive side of hacking, such as the fact that hacks can reveal weaknesses in the system that once identified can then be addressed before they become major problems. Good point. I guess it's the term itself that points people in the wrong direction.
Bill Gutelius attended the recent AUVSI Unmanned Systems 2013 in Washington, DC. His report highlights the investment that is taking place in this exploding industry.

Thoughts from AUVSI 2013
While I was unable to make it in time for the first day, I did manage to attend the entire second day through to the end of AUVSI 2013 on the 15th. I spent almost my entire 3 days talking to folks on the exhibition floor, because that?s where the cool ?toys? are. Of course, of interest to LIDAR News readers, there were well-known industry players: Teledyne (Optech), Riegl, Trimble, Neptec, MDL, LTI, Novatel, Advanced Scientific ...
