intro
Well, unofficially another summer is in the books. I have been busy working on the next LiDAR News magazine. This one is going to be available in time for INTERGEO which will be held in Germany in early October. It will also be distributed at the FARO 3D Conference in Orlando and GEOINT in Tampa, both in Florida the week of October 14.
Good news on the ASTM E57.04 data interoperability subcommittee front. We have two important new projects that are going to launch. The first is the addition of compression, which will affect the core and require a new version. The second will be an extension to eventually support both indoor and outdoor mobile scanning. If you have any thoughts or would like to get involved please contact me.
Remember you can choose to receive either a digital or hard copy of the LiDAR Magazine on the website and encourage your colleagues to sign up for this eNewsletter HERE. We thank you for your ongoing support in building this professional community.
Best regards,
Gene Roe, LS, PE, PhD

Analyzing the Malfunction of a Vertical-lift Drawbridge
Vertical-lift drawbridges are unique structures. To provide clearance for vessels on waterways, the entire road or rail section is lifted vertically between two towers. Counterweights, equal to the weight of the road section, reduce the amount of mechanical force needed to move the section upward or downward. Bridge No. 21, a prime example of a vertical-lift drawbridge, is located on the Welland Canal in Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada. The 27 ...
