intro
INTERGEO 2013 was an eye opener, not so much from the technology side, although the 100' by 300' booths that Leica Geosystems and Trimble stood up were amazing, but to me it was seeing how much importance the Germans place on geospatial technology. In Germany they have GIS associations. These are regional groups of geospatial consulting firms who, although they are competitors, work together to develop new business.
The FARO 3D Documentation Conference included presentations from a "Who's Who" in the laser scanning industry. There is no question FARO has disrupted the market with their Focus 3D and I don't think they are going to stop there.

Making Tracks to the 2013 NYC Maker Faire
At the end of September I had the opportunity to attend the 2013 NYC Maker Faire in Queens, NY. This two-day event had more than 70,000 visitors. The Faire was held on the grounds of the 1964 World?s Fair, in the shadow of Citifield and Arthur Ashe Stadiums. The Maker phenomenon has been growing exponentially over the last few years. At the heart of the Maker movement is the concept that individuals own the ability ...

Catching Fire! Part II: Jeff Fagerman ? In an earlier article we reviewed some of the possible reasons why mobile mapping has not been openly embraced, while at the same time airborne LiDAR systems (ALS) are very popular. Let?s continue to look at even more reasons, not directly related to ALS. So far we have identified these areas: There are far more competitive solutions ...
Mike Tully
Just How Accurate is LiDAR?: Mike Tully ? A client told me the other day that some vendors are promising vertical accuracy of LiDAR deliverables that exceed the LiDAR manufacturer specifications for that system and asked: Is it legitimate for a service provider to promise better accuracy than manufacturer specifications? Or, are service providers overselling their LiDAR services ...
