Meet the Authors /
It was made clear to me once again just how important it is to be creative in your application
of 3D laser scanning technology. In the first case it was Ryan Hacker and his use of laser
scanning to capture the location of floor markings on a concrete slab. The markings were placed
there by a partner firm that specializes in the use of ground penetrating radar, or in this case
concrete penetrating radar.
In the second article Richard Rybka explains how to apply mobile LiDAR to better support
landscape architects. In a matter of minutes versus hours, or even days of manual labor all of
the plantings can be located in their 3D locations - impressive. Glad to have Richard back on the

The Great Western Electrification Program will allow faster, quieter travel, with increased
seating capacity, and improved reliability on one of the United Kingdom?s oldest and busiest
railways. Learn how Bentley Descartes allowed the scalable terrain model to be created 10
times faster than traditional digital terrain models, and how tunnel modeling took 1 to 2 days
compared to 1 week with a standard CAD tool.

Mobile Mapping the
Landscape : Richard Rybka ? Of all the potential applications that can be
conceived for mobile mapping systems, landscape architecture is likely one of the fields that
would be given the least consideration. But the landscape is a very important part of an overall
BIM project. This is particularly true when landscape architectural design ...
TopoLIFT? Replacing the
Tripod for Laser Scanning: Ted Knaak ? Proving that you can always improve
anything, the newly patented TopoLIFT? from Certainty 3D is probably the biggest change in tripod
technology in a hundred years. TopoLIFT? increases static laser scanner field productivity for
land survey applications by about 400%. That?s not a misprint?laser ...
