intro
With another successful SPAR in the books, attention will now turn to three vendor events in June: HxGN Live - June 3 to 6 in Las Vegas; Riegl LiDAR, June 25-27 in Vienna, Austria; and the Optech ILSC, June 25-27 in Toronto, Canada. Because they are at the same time, you will have to choose whether to attend Riegl or Optech, but rest assured LiDAR News will cover all three.
As I mentioned last time, at the top of my "to do list" was a demo of Autodesk's recently announced ReCap. I did and it is impressive. The user interface has been designed for a tablet and the platform strategy has the potential to open up laser scanning and 3D photography?what Autodesk likes to call reality capture?to the masses. The roadmap is in place, now it's all about execution.
We thank you for your ongoing support in building this professional community.
Best regards,
Gene Roe, LS, PE, PhD

An Intro to Mobile Mapping System Trajectories
Mobile mapping innovation seems to be everywhere, at least in the 3D LiDAR world. Just a year ago conversations about mobile mapping involved topics like, ?What is it??, ?What can you do with it??, or ?How accurate can it really be?? Well, most of these questions have been answered, except for the one about accuracy. Put two surveyors in a room with a tape measure and ask them to measure something. Then ask them to agree on ...

ZEB1 Product Review : Cyn René Whitfield ? As the LiDAR market continues to evolve consumers are benefiting from more and better choices in the technology to capture as-built data. The original LiDAR scanner, about the size of a desk mounted on a tripod has now evolved in about 12 years to smaller, dynamic data collectors mounted on vehicles. Now the power of 3D ...

Reclaiming Human Habitat in the Gila River Reservation, Arizona": Paul Tice ? In March, 2013 I was afforded the opportunity to laser scan and create DTMs of two properties in the Gila River Reservation about 40 minutes south of Tempe, Arizona - home of Arizona State University. As I picked up my 150 lbs of scanning equipment and luggage at the Phoenix airport, I was ...
