The buzz is starting to increase around ILMF 2014, now just a few weeks away. I know of a couple of very exciting announcements that are being planned for Denver—stay tuned.
I also saw that the new ASPRS (American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing) Executive Director Michael Hauck is now scheduled to speak. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Michael through a Transportation Research Board committee that we both serve on. He could use the support of the LiDAR industry in his new position. Let's all do what we can and congratulations Michael.

Restoration Made Easy
Providing critical data for restorations of historical landmarks and venues can often be challenging for even the most experienced surveyors. The John Ford Amphitheatre, which was built in 1931, proved to be no exception. Utilizing the FARO Focus3D Laser Scanner became a significant benefit for the Mollenhauer Group as they proceeded to carry out a detailed survey of the complete site. With 1,200 outdoor and 87 indoor seats, the John ...

Historical Facade Analysis II - Scanning the Castle of Olympia: Paul Tice ? Growing up, I was enamored with knights, chivalry, swords and castles. I can't tell you how many times I watched movies about Merlin or how many hours I've logged on books relating to medieval history, dragons, and the like. That being said, it has been very exciting to work on projects involving historical ...
Geospatial Poised to Become a Foundation Technology for the Smart Grid: Geoff Zeiss ? GIS is currently applied tactically by utilities in a number of areas. For example, GIS has been widely used by utilities for years for automated mapping/facilities management, back office records management, asset management, transmission line siting, and more recently for ...
LIDAR Best Practices: Part 1 - Acquisition: Lewis Graham ?Before we begin, I must once again remind you that my companies GeoCue Corporation and QCoherent Software provide consulting services and software to the LIDAR industry. In addition, GeoCue is the North American distributor for Terrasolid. This does, of course, introduce some level of bias into my articles. In ...
Bin ?N? Grid: A simple program for statistical filtering of point cloud data: Michael Olsen ? This month I will discuss a simple statistical filter that can be used on LIDAR data to remove vegetation, noise, etc. We developed code to do this as a project for our DTM class at Oregon State. Note that you will need to download the Microsoft visual studio C++ Redistributable for this to ...
