The second major conference of the year, ASPRS 2014 will be taking place next week in Louisville, Kentucky March 23 -
28. Rich Bremer from LiDAR News will be attending. As I have mentioned,
Michael Hauck is the new Executive Director of ASPRS (American Society of Photogrammetry and
Remote Sensing). I hope that all of us in the LiDAR industry will take this as an opportunity to
actively support this important professional organization.
I trust that you saw this week's announcement
concerning the debut of the LiDAR News Webinar Series. The first
one, titled "Making Money with the Speed of Light", will take place on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at
1 PM EDT. Industry veteran Ken Smerz, President/CEO of Eco3D, will be the presenter. You can

Airborne LiDAR Sensors: New Data
As LiDAR sensor technologies have evolved the profession as realized a number of benefits.
Most noticeable is the increase in repetition rates. When I started in the commercial LiDAR
industry in 1996, the company I worked for had a 5Khz LiDAR sensor. Now we routinely use sensors
capable of collecting at rates for 500Khz. It should be noted that just because a company has a
500Khz sensor doesn?t mean the sensor will be operated at that ...

The Right Technology,
Right Tools, and Right Sequence: Jason Amadori ? We are seeing many agencies
jumping on the LiDAR train and for good reason ? why not go out, collect everything in the right-
of-way at high precision and then go and exploit this data as much as possible? This is a great
idea in theory, but in practice the value of this information can only be ...
Unmanned Systems Dominate
Discussion at MAPPS: Nick Palatiello ? For over seven years, MAPPS has
hosted conference sessions on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This was to keep the membership
informed and engaged with the integration of technology, as well as the pending regulations for
commercial use. The buzz around the technology has never been as high as it ...

Restoration for a Community: Paul Tice ? In 2012 I was approached by the
Director of the Rivoli Theater Restoration Coalition from Pendleton, Oregon. He had seen a few of
the point cloud visualizations our team put together for the Petersen Rock Garden in Redmond,
Oregon and he was confident that the Rivoli could benefit from this sort of marketing ...
