intro
Welcome! We've finally decompressed from an intense week at InterGEO. The show may only last 3 days but it is so massive and encompassing that it literally consumes an entire week to prepare for, participate in and then reflect upon such a large conference. With over 17,000 visitors from more than 100 countries, the show has become the premier platform for global industry networking.

The UAV phenomena certainly had its impact on the exhibit floor (and air!) as drones are taking over not only the exhibits but also geospatial applications covering every conceivable discipline. This conference helps to illustrate how far we've come in the remote sensing industry thanks to myriad sensors covering every inch of the Earth providing benefits to all walks of life.

Another sign of the times is the tremendous growth and awareness of 3D technology. Laser scanning, reality capture and scan-to-BIM are driving innovation across every industry. We now see GeoTech being applied across the board because everything has a geographic element to it.

Scroll down to catch much of the big news from the show. As always, don't hesitate to drop a line with article ideas or news tips.

Until Next time, Cheers!

Bluesky Aerial Mapping Helps Prevent Trees From Falling

Aerial mapping from Bluesky is helping to reduce the risk of trees falling on power lines, key roads and railways. Part of an NERC (Natural Environment Research Council) funded project, 3D data produced by Bluesky is being used by scientists at the University of Lancaster to refine a tree failure risk model that currently uses complex wind analysis techniques to assign a level of risk to to individual trees. The data - Bluesky's unique UK National Tree ...
