intro
Welcome to our Winter Solstice edition! It's been a busy December from a news standpoint—scroll down for recent announcements. One item of note is Velodyne's unveiling of a new miniaturized solid-state sensor. Per Velodyne, "The technology will impact the proliferation of LiDAR sensors in multiple industry sectors, including autonomous vehicles, ridesharing, 3D mapping, and drones. LiDAR sensors that leverage this new design will be less expensive, easier to integrate due to their smaller size, and more reliable as a result of fewer moving parts. The technology can also be integrated in Velodyne LiDAR’s existing Puck form factors." While this may seem targeted towards OEM types, it's relevant to all of us from an increased adoption and of course cost perspective.

Also of note, Lizardtech has announced lossless compression of Harris' Geiger-Mode data. Several other project updates and partnerships are highlighted below. In this week's spotlight, our very own Ken Smerz (Eco3d) highlights a recent invitation for the adaptive reuse renovation of a church in Scottsdale. Nice work if you can get it... ;)

Merry Christmas everyone, cheers to 2017!

Geiger-mode LiDAR enables the collection of data at higher resolutions and from higher elevations than traditional linear LiDAR - so one collect can be used for multiple purposes. After two decades of providing the U.S. Government with this data, Harris now offers Geiger-mode LiDAR data and products to commercial organizations and civil governments.

Watch our video to see how you can benefit from Geiger-mode LiDAR.
