intro
Welcome! We're currently in Denver taking in the International LIDAR Mapping Forum where hundreds of professionals have gathered seeking LIDAR and other 3D geospatial data collection technologies. ILMF has always been an outstanding networking event—I say this because I was one of the original organizers (from 2005-2007). This year, possibly more than 900 attendees will rub shoulders, catch up, make deals and learn about the latest advances in technology.

Some of the biggest news of recent is Hexagon's acquisition of SigmaSpace Corporation. You may recall our June 2015 webinar that highlighted SigmaSpace's Single Photon LIDAR technology. SPL claims to enable 3D data collection at much higher speeds and resolution than conventional systems. Here at the show, there has been much excitement around new mobile mapping systems from Riegl alongside a UAS Collaboration from Juniper Unmanned, Pulse Aerospace and YellowScan plus new solutions from Optech, Orbit GT, Siteco and others. Stay tuned for additional announcements.

If you're at the show, come by our booth to catch up! We've got plenty of magazines to go-round.

Until next time...

Siteco will attend ILMF 2016 in Denver and SPAR 2016 in Houston, participating at the Z+F booth. The new RoadScanner-Compact mobile mapping system exceeds market demand for small, inexpensive, easy to install mobile lidars, integrated with Faro, Z+F, Riegl, Velodyne and other sensors. Siteco’s powerful analysis software is fully compatible with Optech, Leica, Topcon and other mobile systems. The Road Scanner is available with a choice of MEMS-based or top performance mechanical and fiber-optic gyros. Click here for videos or more information.

Real Orthophotos: Artemis Valanis - An orthophoto is by definition a geometrically corrected image of uniform scale, resolution and quality. An orthophoto, may be created from a single or multiple photographs (hundreds or even thousands) which are processed using photogrammetric methods in order to produce an orthogonal projection view of a site (like a map) or ...

Lewis Graham
Random Points: May I see your license, Ma'am: Lewis Graham - I was recently giving a talk on mine site mapping using small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) where I was sort of verbally attacked about licensure. It is bad enough that the FAA requires a pilot license to fly a model airplane and now this person in the audience was indignant that I was not a big advocate of also requiring ...

Geiger-mode LiDAR is an emerging commercial technology that enables the collection of data at higher resolutions and from higher elevations than traditional linear-mode LiDAR. To date, Geiger-mode LiDAR has been used only in the government domain. Over the past 15 years, Harris has become the only large-volume processor of Geiger-mode LiDAR. Our experience includes the full life cycle of Geiger-mode LiDAR data collection, processing, and dissemination.
