Welcome! It's now August and vacation season is in full swing... This can seem like a slow time in the geospatial field with folks going on holidays travelling across the state, country or even the world. Be cautious in these new and uncertain times, especially around large crowds—for this reason, I avoid them entirely, opting for the woods or mountains!

Traditionally we've used summertime to get a head start on fall projects and even next year's plans. With that in mind, we could really use your input on how we're doing. Please keep an eye out for a reader survey invitation after this message. If you'd like to dive right in you can access the survey here. It should take no more than a few minutes to complete and all responses are anonymous. Howvever, those willing to share an email address will be entered to win a historic map reproduction of their choice!

Until Next time, Cheers!

Ben Shinabery Discusses the Big Bat LiDAR Project

Some of the oldest traces of human history have been preserved by the constant climates underground-in the deep, cold dark of caves. Since our first ancestors began marking routes in caves with primitive tools or painting images with cinder, ash, and paint, we humans have been mapping ...

Geiger-mode LiDAR is an emerging commercial technology that enables the collection of data at higher resolutions and from higher elevations than traditional linear-mode LiDAR. To date, Geiger-mode LiDAR has been used only in the government domain. Over the past 15 years, Harris has become the only large-volume processor of Geiger-mode LiDAR. Our experience includes the full life cycle of Geiger-mode LiDAR data collection, processing, and dissemination.
